"You are the sunshine of my life
That's why I'll always be around
You are the apple of my eye
Forever you'll stay in my heart..."

"You Are the Sunshine of My Life" by Stevie Wonder entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart in March of 1973 (#76) and nine weeks later reached No. 1. It also reached No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary charts and is included on The Rolling Stones' 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time list.

Motown Records gave Stevie Wonder complete control of his recordings. He was one of the first artists to write, produce, arrange, and perform his own songs. Wonder recorded "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life" iduring an mpromptu session at Electric Lady Studios in New York City while on tour in 1972.

The sunshine of Stevie Wonder's life when he wrote this song was Syreeta Wright. In 1970, Stevie married Syreeta. Ms. Wright, like Stevie, was a Motown artist. She co-wrote "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life", "Signed, Sealed and Delivered and several songs with Stevie Wonder. Unlike this song lyrics, their marriage wasn't "forever" and lasted only 18 months.
